Nature’s Broom Tackles
Gulf Oil Spill

Environmental Bioremediation

What is “bioremediation?” Technically defined, it is “the use of biological agents, such as bacteria, to remove or neutralize contaminants in polluted soil or water.” Plainly speaking, EPA-approved Nature’s Broom absorbents eat up oil, paint, chemicals and a host of other types of spills. Bioremediation is a natural process that uses microorganisms to transform harmful contaminants into non-toxic carbon dioxide, water and fatty acids.

Does It Work?

In a nine-week study, Nature’s Broom absorbent was evaluated by a participating university for the product’s ability to stimulate the degradation of petroleum products in used motor oil and hydraulic fluid. In the study, three treatments were evaluated:  1) controls containing only Nature’s Broom absorbent and de-ionized water;  2) Nature’s Broom absorbent contaminated with 20,000 ppm of Havoline® motor oil and de-ionized water, and;  3) Nature’s Broom absorbent contaminated with 10,000 ppm of used hydraulic fluid and de-ionized water. Total OilHydFlu_Chartpetroleum hydrocarbon (TPH)  analysis showed a 75% degradation of the motor oil and 67% degradation of the hydraulic fluid after nine weeks.

Mantis is an innovator in providing cost-effective bioremediation services. We work with you every step of the way to save you significant money and time. From our initial no-cost consultation to the final clean-up, we are your partner in resolving your remediation needs.

We use Nature’s Broom absorbents — EPA-approved, biodegradable products to remediate your site. Nature’s Broom will literally eat away the contamination within soil or water. The microbes in Nature’s Broom consume the petrochemical contamination. This process is similar to the human body’s metabolic process, which breaks down fats, sugars and other food substances.

Benefits of On-Site Remediation

On-site remediation of contaminated soils eliminates the expenditure and waste of traditional off-site remediation. Hauling away contaminated soils is a time-consuming and expensive process. Mantis offers on-site remediation services to help your company resolve contaminated soils in a timely fashion, and at a cost that adds to your bottom line.

Mantis Services Include:

Cost-Free Consultation

Our experts will visit your site and determine the level of contamination at no initial charge to you.

Cost-Free, Customized Remediation Plan

We will customize a free plan for the remediation of your site.

Cost-Effective, On-Site Soil Remediation

Mantis will immediately begin on-site remediation of your contaminated soil. Your costs are reduced by removing contaminates on-site with EPA-approved, biodegradable, cost-effective products. From the initial consultation to obtaining required permits, to providing the manpower to remediate your site, Mantis is your complete, on-site bioremediation service.

Cost Comparison

Typical cost for off-site remediation without any soil treatment (assuming mere disposal of excavated soil) is approximately $120 per cubic yard. Mantis can remediate that same cubic yard on-site, using Nature’s Broom absorbent, for approximately $40 per cubic yard. This comparison does not take into consideration the time-savings of on-site remediation, resulting in additional tangible benefits and savings to Mantis customers.
